What Pokémon Omega Ruby Origins changes
How the game plays differently from Pokémon Ruby, then every stat, type and ability it alters next to what the official games do.
How the game plays
Omega Ruby Origins is a Ruby ROM hack that keeps Hoenn's map and its eight Gym Leaders and changes almost everything inside them. Its Pokédex is its own: 411 entries running from Bulbasaur to Giratina in an order that belongs to this game and nobody else, mixing species from every generation, with 40 Mega forms numbered among them as ordinary entries. The Fairy type is in, attacks are physical or special by the move rather than by the type, and the wild tables across 96 areas are stocked from that whole list rather than from Hoenn's. The difficulty is the reason people play it: the eight leaders finish at level 76, the Champion's team is level 100, and most of the map's wild Pokémon top out in the thirties. This guide is a partial one. It carries everything the creator published — every species with its stats, abilities and level-up list, the whole move table, the wild tables with their level ranges, and all thirteen boss teams down to the held items — and it says so plainly where the documentation stops: no TM numbers or locations, no ordinary trainers, and no rates on the wild tables.
A regional dex that is not Hoenn's
The 411 entries run in an order this game invented: Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, Venusaur, Charmander and then, at number ten, Turtwig. Species from every generation are folded into one list, and the wild tables draw on all of it, so a Hoenn route here can hold something that was never in Hoenn.
The creator's own listing says 412 species. The published dex has 411 entries, so one is either missing from the documentation or counted differently there; this guide shows the 411 that exist.
Megas are evolutions here, and one item does all of them
40 of the dex's entries are Mega forms, each with its own number, typing, base stats and ability. They are reached the way any other stone evolution is reached: 26 species evolve into their Mega with an item the game calls the Evo. Gem, and Charizard evolves with the Evo. Gem X into a second Fire and Dragon form as well.
Where the Evo. Gem is found is not published anywhere in the creator's documentation, so this guide does not say.
The physical/special split, and the Fairy type
Ruby decided whether a move was physical or special from its type. Here each of the 356 moves carries its own category, so Crunch is a physical Dark move and Dark Pulse is a special one. The Fairy type is in as well, on 26 of the 411 entries.
The difficulty setting
The creator's own listing names a Kaizo difficulty option and double battles. Neither is described in the documentation this guide is built from, and no second set of boss teams was published, so the thirteen teams in this guide are the ones the creator listed and it does not claim to know which setting they belong to.
