How the game plays differently from Pokémon HeartGold, then every stat, type and ability it alters next to what the official games do.
How the game plays
A rebuild of HeartGold on the open-source hg-engine. All 1,025 Pokémon carry their own stats, types, abilities and level-up lists, and 451 of them turn up in the wild tables, so a route in Johto can hand you a Pikipek in the morning and a Tandemaus at night. Every trainer in the game has a new team. The level cap is not a setting you pick: experience simply stops at the cap, Rare Candies included, so a badge is the only thing that lets you grow. Mega Evolution works, the Fairy type exists, and the eight Kanto gym leaders are kept back as an endgame run of boss fights once Johto is done.
The main changes
- All 1,025 Pokémon with their own stats, types, abilities and level-up moves, plus 322 alternate formes
- 451 species in the wild tables, split between morning, day and night
- New teams for every one of the game's 732 fights
- A mandatory level cap: experience stops at the cap and Rare Candies stop with it
- Mega Evolution, with 48 Mega formes
- The Fairy type, on 65 species
- 55 Alolan, Galarian, Hisuian and Paldean formes
- Only 13 evolutions still ask for a trade
- Kanto's gym leaders held back as an endgame boss rush
- 92 TMs and 8 HMs
