What Pokémon Odyssey changes
How the game plays differently from Pokémon FireRed, then every stat, type and ability it alters next to what the official games do.
How the game plays
Pokémon Odyssey is PacoScarso's FireRed hack set in Talrega, an island whose Yggdrasil Labyrinth draws adventurers the way a league draws trainers. You play Nyx, a new recruit to the Adventurers Guild, and the game is shaped like the Etrian Odyssey series it borrows from: instead of routes and badges you descend through eight Strata, each with its own level cap, roaming F.O.E.s, gathering and mining points and a Guild captain to beat at the bottom. There are no gym leaders, no evil team and no Elite Four; the pace comes from the story, nearly forty sidequests, and Naval Explorations across the Sea of Galazeah that open up the surrounding islands. Every battle is a double battle. Around a hundred Etrian variants — regional forms modelled on Etrian Odyssey monsters and character classes — sit alongside a rebalanced Kanto-to-Hoenn dex with some later additions, a new eighteenth type called Aether, new moves and abilities, and the game's own soundtrack. Difficulty (Easy or Hard) and level caps are chosen in game.
Strata instead of routes and gyms
The game is built like an Etrian Odyssey: the Yggdrasil Labyrinth is a stack of Strata, each several floors deep, and you clear it from the top down. There are no gym leaders, no evil team and no Elite Four. Each Stratum ends in a fight against the Guild captain assigned to it, and the creator publishes a level cap for each one. Level caps are optional and chosen in game; the caps below are the ones the creator lists.
| Stratum | Level cap |
|---|---|
| First Stratum: Emerald Grove | Lv. 18 |
| Second Stratum: Sand Sea of Golgonda | Lv. 30 |
| Third Stratum: Magmatic Caves | Lv. 40 |
| Fourth Stratum: Azure Rainforest | Lv. 50 |
| Fifth Stratum: Abyssal Shrine | Lv. 60 |
| Sixth Stratum: Frozen Grounds | Lv. 65 |
| Seventh Stratum: Porcelain Forest | Lv. 70 |
| Eighth Stratum: Cyclopean Haunt | Lv. 75 |
Every battle is a double battle
Wild encounters, F.O.E.s and bosses are all fought two-on-two. Boss rosters below are the Hard Mode teams the creator publishes, with natures, EV spreads, held items, abilities and moves. Easy Mode teams are not documented, so they are not shown.
F.O.E.s
Some floors have an F.O.E.: a single fixed Pokémon far above the floor's level, with a set moveset, that roams the map. The wild tables list them as their own method, with their moves, so you can decide whether to fight or route around. 29 F.O.E.s are documented across the labyrinth and the sea.
Aether, the eighteenth type
Aether is new to this game and Fairy does not exist. From the game's own type chart: Aether attacks are not very effective against Poison, Dark, Aether and have no effect on nothing; they are super effective against nothing. Defending, an Aether-type is weak to Poison, Dark, resists Flying, Ground, Fire, Water, Aether and is immune to nothing.
32 species carry the Aether type and 28 moves are Aether-type. Moves have a physical/special split by move rather than by type.
Naval Explorations
From the dock on the Coastal Road you can sail the Sea of Galazeah. The encounter tables there change as you clear Strata, sea F.O.E.s guard chests on the eastern side, and finding a route to Varley, Arundel, Charon and Gorenil is what opens those islands. Each tier of the sea is listed as its own method on the Sea of Galazeah page.
Gathering, mining and F.O.E. drops
Each Stratum has gathering and mining points that yield berries, flowers, shards, gems and evolution stones, and F.O.E.s drop flowers and gems. Flowers and gems are what the Guild shop upgrades and several sidequests ask for. They are all on the items page under the Stratum they come from.
Sidequests
The creator lists 38 sidequests. Several hand out Pokémon, TMs or key items that other tables here refer to.

How the Pokémon change
Measured from the guide's own data, so it can't drift from the pages it links to.
Compared against present-day official data. The Fairy type and hidden abilities arrived after Pokémon FireRed, so a difference here can belong to the series rather than to this hack.
