✓ Saffron City opens once you have taken Team Rocket's plans to the gate guards. Eleven floors of Silph Co., a Lapras from a grateful employee, the Thunder Wave tutor on the second floor and the Mimic tutor in the Copycat's house, then Sabrina. The Fighting Dojo gives you a Hitmonlee or a Hitmonchan. Koga's badge is what finally lets you Surf.

- Surf — Surf — the HM is in the Safari Zone's Secret House, and Koga's badge lets you use it
- Hunt a hidden Pokémon while surfing with the DexNav — The DexNav, from Bill on Route 25 — and you have to be surfing for these to show up
