✓ Pallet Town, Route 1, Viridian City, Route 2, Route 22 and Viridian Forest, up to Brock in Pewter City. Professor Oak hands you a partner Pikachu that walks behind you and never evolves, and your rival takes an Eevee. Viridian City has a Dream Eater tutor across the water, Pewter's museum has a Seismic Toss tutor and hands over the Old Amber and your choice of the Dome or Helix fossil, and Route 22 west of Viridian is where you meet your rival for the first optional fight.
