Yu-Gi-Oh POKeDUEL
Kanto's badge run, refought with over 400 Duel Monsters standing in for the Pokédex.
More about the game
Yu-Gi-Oh POKeDUEL rebuilds FireRed on the Complete FireRed Upgrade (CFRU) engine with every one of Kanto's Pokémon replaced by a Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monster — around 410 in total — and every Gym Leader, Elite Four member and the Champion swapped for a character from the anime and card game. The world, route order and badges are Kanto's own; what changes is the cast, the movepool (200+ custom moves alongside a mechanics update through Generation 9, including the Fairy type) and the numbers behind nearly every fight. A difficulty choice made at the start of a new game — Standard, Hard or Brutal — changes AI natures, abilities and held items, and introduces dynamic level scaling on some late-game battles; several trainers can also be fought again after the story for a stronger "Rematch" team.
What's different, point by point
- Every species is a Duel Monster fakemon — no original Pokémon remain
- Three selectable difficulties (Standard / Hard / Brutal), chosen once at the start
- A post-game Rematch team on many named trainers
- 200+ custom moves plus balance changes to a number of vanilla moves and abilities
- Mechanics through Generation 9 (the Fairy type, modern move pool) on a FireRed base
- Gym Leaders, the Elite Four, the Champion, and a whole GX League of postgame bosses

What this guide covers
Every guide here is built from the game's own documentation. Where a ROM hack changed something but never published the numbers, this says so rather than quietly filling the gap with the original game's — which would be worse than leaving it out.
| Section | Source | |
|---|---|---|
| Wild Pokémon by area | From the game itself | Every grass/cave and fishing/surfing table in the sheet, 78 areas in total. |
| Encounter rates | From the game itself | Percentages are the sheet's own per-slot rates. |
| Wild levels | From the game itself | Every level or level range is the sheet's own Grass & Caves / Fishing & Surfing column, which the creator's own site omits. |
| Stats, abilities and movesets | From the game itself | Base stats, both types, two abilities plus a hidden ability, level-up learnset and evolution method for 391 of the game's ~410 species. Egg moves aren't shown: the sheet's egg-move table identifies species by an internal C constant with no name given anywhere in it, and matching those constants to species positionally against the learnset table (the only other ordering available) drifts partway through — this guide won't publish an egg-move list it can't attach to the right species with confidence. |
| TM and HM compatibility | Not published by the creator | The sheet lists every TM's move and (where documented) where to find it, but not per-species compatibility — see notes.tm_compat. the site's TM page POKeDUEL is built on FireRed / LeafGreen; the FireRed / LeafGreen guide has the original game's TM and HM compatibility. |
| Where TMs are found | From the game itself | 86 of 107 TMs have a documented location; the rest say so rather than guessing. |
| Trainer and boss teams | From the game itself | Gym Leaders, the Elite Four, the GX League, Character Battles, Rival Battles, Boss Battles, Mini Bosses and Duelist Kingdom, each broken out by difficulty where the sheet gives a fixed level — 99 fights (52 of them bosses). 145 difficulty variants were left out because their level is documented only as a dynamic target; see notes.dynamic_levels. |

Reading the tables
SpritesThe Duel Monster art on the species pages is the game's own front sprites, taken 2026-09-12 from pokedueldb.com — the creator's official database site — one per species, at their native 64-pixel size with the GBA background colour made transparent, and served from this site. Like screenshots, it comes down at once if the creator asks.
SourceEvery table on this site is read from the creator's own "Yugioh Pokeduel Official Documentation V4.0.6" spreadsheet, exported tab by tab as CSV, cross-checked against pokedueldb.com (named as the official documentation site by that same spreadsheet's own first cell). The site's full move list is the one exception read directly: it is the only place a move's raw internal name is paired with the display name the sheet's learnsets use.
Dynamic_LevelsOn Hard, Brutal and Rematch, a number of fights are documented with a level of "Max Level", "Max Level - N" or "Player Max Level" rather than a fixed number — the game scales that trainer's team to wherever your own party is. This guide never invents a number for those, so a trainer can be missing its Hard, Brutal or Rematch entry even though the roster (species, moves, items) is fully documented — only the level isn't.
EvolutionsA handful of evolution chains branch into two different next stages from the same Pokémon rather than continuing in a straight line, and the sheet's own cell formatting for those (line breaks and indentation inside one spreadsheet cell) does not survive a CSV export. Where this guide could not tell a branch apart from a straight continuation, it reads the cell top-to-bottom as a single chain, which may misplace which Pokémon a rare branch actually evolves from.
Tm_CompatThe sheet publishes the TM/HM list and where to find each one, and shows learnability per species on pokedueldb.com's individual species pages — but not as a species×move table anywhere, and only two sample species pages were kept in this project's sources. TM compatibility per Pokémon isn't shown here.
ItemsThe sheet's held-item and area item-pickup lists are explicit that they don't cover every item in the game ("this list doesn't include all items"), and mix wild-held items, TM pickups and general item spots in one loosely structured tab. Only the TM locations were reliable enough to publish; general item placement is not shown.
Abilities_ChangedAbility balance changes from the sheet: Rivalry: No longer reduces power to same gender | Slow Start: Only lasts 2 turns instead of 5 | Royal Flush (Custom): Increases the attack/defense/speed of any "Knight" in battle by 50% (including itself)(must be alive) - Queens Knight = Attack - Kings Knight = Defense - Jacks Knight = Speed | Emergency Exit: Will trigger at the end of the turn instead of immediately | Magma Armor: Also blocks Ice moves and raises Defense | Grass Pelt: Also works in Forest Terrain
