What Pokémon: Wild Indigo changes

How the game plays differently from Pokémon Emerald, then every stat, type and ability it alters next to what the official games do.

How the game plays

Pokémon: Wild Indigo was built for TARC 3, a themed ROM hacking competition, on the puzzle theme. You play a space-trucker stranded on a strange planet after your ship goes down, watching your air supply and exploring outward from the landing site to work out what happened and what lives here. The planet holds its own fakemon, Dulroc, a rock-and-psychic Pokémon found in its canyons that can be evolved into Solrock with a Sun Stone, alongside a run of Pokémon the creator gave new types and stats of their own — Steelix as a Dragon-type, Metagross as Water and Fighting, Lunatone as Ice and Fairy among them. Four wild Pokémon act as the planet's own boss fights, met and battled directly out in the open rather than behind a trainer, and the story ends in a lab holding the planet's real secret and a four-on-four battle against its source. This guide reads all of that straight out of the game's own published source files, the only documentation that exists for it — there is no separate guide or wiki from the team.

The main changes

  • One new Pokémon, Dulroc, discovered in the planet's canyons and able to evolve into Solrock
  • A run of existing Pokémon with their own new types and stats for this game — Steelix, Metagross, Lunatone, Regiclypse and others among them
  • Four wild Pokémon fought and caught directly out in the open as the planet's own boss fights, plus a four-on-four battle at the story's end
  • An Oxygen and Air Canister system: watch your air on the planet's surface and refill it before it runs out
  • A fully overworld-placed set of wild Pokémon on most of the planet's surface, each one an individually placed encounter rather than a random pool
  • Built on the pokeemerald-expansion engine, with the full modern movepool and type chart

How the Pokémon change

Measured from the guide's own data, so it can't drift from the pages it links to.

Compared against present-day official data. The Fairy type and hidden abilities arrived after Pokémon Emerald, so a difference here can belong to the series rather than to this hack.
