What Pokémon Tourmaline changes

How the game plays differently from Pokémon Emerald, then every stat, type and ability it alters next to what the official games do.

How the game plays

Pokémon Tourmaline is tdilos's loose sequel to Pokémon Emerald, set in Issho a few years after Groudon and Kyogre tore up Hoenn. May turns up as an assistant professor, Team Genesis turns up as the problem, and the region has a 386-species dex of its own: Isshoan regional forms of Pokémon from generations five to eight, "betamons" built out of unused and SpaceWorld-era designs, and a run of new evolutions and pre-evolutions for old lines. Fairy is in, and so is a nineteenth type of the creator's own — Echo, drawn up to answer Fairy and Ghost. Underneath that sit four new status conditions, two new weathers you set with a move, more than eighty new moves, thirty-eight new abilities, a custom set of over a hundred TMs and HMs, and level caps you can't opt out of. This guide is built from the one document the creator publishes: the spreadsheet linked from their release post. It carries the wild tables, the new species' numbers, the moves, the abilities and the TMs — and no trainer teams at all, because none have been published.

The Echo type

Issho has a nineteenth type. Echo is built to answer Fairy and Ghost, and the documentation gives it these match-ups: attacking, it does double damage to Fairy, Ghost, Water; half damage to Grass, Ice, Psychic; nothing to Echo.

Defending, the same chart reads: Weak to Ice, Psychic; Resists Fairy, Flying, Ghost; Immune to Echo.

Nothing else on the chart changes, and the site's type colours only know the eighteen official types, so an Echo chip is a plain one.

Pokémon retyped to Echo

These species carry the new type in this game. The documentation lists only the ones in the Issho dex.

Four new status conditions

On top of the usual five. Each has a type that shrugs it off entirely.

StatusWhat it does
DAZA dazed Pokemon will not listen to commands; instead it will act according to its nature. Echo types are immune. 20% chance to cure itself each turn.
EXHAn exhausted Pokemon has its Speed halved and uses twice as much PP. Ghost types are immune.
FERAn afraid Pokemon has its SpAtk halved and each turn has a 25% chance of being immobilized by fear. Dark types are immune.
INFAn infected Pokemon can't heal on its own and takes 1/2 recoil damage each time it attacks. Bug and Steel types are immune.

Two new weathers

Full Moon and Smaze are moves that set weather of their own, and several of the new abilities key off them.

Weather moveTypePPWhat it does
Full MoonFairy5For 5 turns: boosts the Acc of Fairy types by 1 stage, Dark and Fairy types restore 1/16th of their max HP at the end of each turn, Solar Beam and Moonblast fire in 1 turn, Morning Sun, Moonlight, and Synthesis restore 25% more HP, Weather Ball doubles in base power and becomes Fairy type
SmazePoison5For 5 turns: Poison types restore 1/16th of their max HP at the end of each turn, non-Poison types lose 1/16th of their max HP at the end of each turn, Morning Sun, Moonlight, and Synthesis restore 25% less HP, Weather Ball doubles in base power and becomes Poison type

Level caps

This game has mandatory level caps: a Pokémon over the cap for your badge count will not obey you. The creator's documentation doesn't publish the numbers, and this guide doesn't have any trainer data to work them out from, so there is no cap table here.

New moves

83 moves this game adds, with the numbers the documentation gives. It publishes no learnsets, so the only way this guide can tell you who gets one is the TM list.

Fossils

The documentation lists 6 fossils and where each one is dug up. Take one to the scientist in the Route 83 hydroplant to have it revived. The documentation doesn't say which Pokémon each fossil revives into, so this guide doesn't either.

Read from the creator's own documentation sheet, which covers version 1.0 of the game.

The main changes

  • A 386-species regional dex for Issho, with 69 species the game made itself — Isshoan regional forms, new evolutions and pre-evolutions, betamons and fakemon — all with the creator's own types, abilities and base stats
  • Echo, a nineteenth type built to answer Fairy and Ghost, with 15 existing species retyped into it
  • Four new status conditions — dazed, exhausted, afraid and infected — each with a type that shrugs it off
  • Two new weathers, Full Moon and Smaze, both set by a move, with abilities that key off them
  • 83 new moves and 40 rebalanced ones; 38 new abilities and 5 reworked ones
  • 110 TMs and HMs, every one with the place the documentation puts it
  • Wild tables for 79 areas, split by time of day where the game splits them, plus swarms, totem battles, roaming legendaries, mythicals, trades, fossils and gifts
  • Mandatory level caps, a day and night cycle, and generation 8 battle standards on the pokeemerald-expansion engine

How the Pokémon change

Measured from the guide's own data, so it can't drift from the pages it links to.

Compared against present-day official data. The Fairy type and hidden abilities arrived after Pokémon Emerald, so a difference here can belong to the series rather than to this hack.
