What Pokémon Hearth changes
How the game plays differently from Pokémon Emerald, then every stat, type and ability it alters next to what the official games do.
How the game plays
Pokémon Hearth is set in Toku, a new region drawn from pre-modern Japan and China: mountain villages, harbours, bamboo woods, hot springs and a quarry, with graphics drawn for it rather than borrowed. Gyms are dojos, badges are Tokens, and the eight dojo masters are the region's own. There are Pokémon here that exist nowhere else — a small line called Kotora and Raitora, a Honestree, a Shadowl, a Toxikyu — and nine Tokuan forms, which are to Toku what Alolan forms are to Alola. This is a demo, and the creator says so plainly: it ends after the third dojo, and the rest is still being made. What that gets you is the front of a game: nineteen areas with wild Pokémon in them, 108 trainers, three finished dojo fights and a fourth that is visibly unfinished. This guide reads all of it out of the game's own source, including the parts past the end of the demo, and says every time which side of that line you are on.
The main changes
- A new region, Toku, with its own towns, routes, caves and dojos — none of Hoenn's map is reused
- 348 Pokémon on the region's own Pokédex list, including Kotora, Raitora, Honestree, Shadowl and Toxikyu, which are new to this game
- Nine Tokuan forms — Psyduck, Golduck, Sewaddle, Swadloon, Leavanny, Venonat, Venomoth, Toxel and Gyarados, each redrawn for this region, most of them with their own typing and stats
- No HMs. Any move that cuts clears a small tree, any move that smashes rocks breaks a rock, and the game hands you a harmless Scroll for each one so you are never stuck
- A Pokédex you fill in by exploring: until you learn a species' name it is listed under a made-up one, and its entry fills in as you hear people talk about it
- Day and night wild tables on every outdoor area, on the game's own clock rather than your console's
- Every individual Pokémon has its own slight hue, separate from shiny (which is still 1 in 4,096)
How the Pokémon change
Measured from the guide's own data, so it can't drift from the pages it links to.
Compared against present-day official data. The Fairy type and hidden abilities arrived after Pokémon Emerald, so a difference here can belong to the series rather than to this hack.
