What Super Mariomon changes

How the game plays differently from Pokémon Emerald, then every stat, type and ability it alters next to what the official games do.

How the game plays

Super Mariomon is a pokeemerald-expansion game by Too Many Productions, led by Alaina "Kobazco" Robsahm and directed by Alpharad, in which nothing from Hoenn survives. The region is the Mushroom Kingdom, laid out as numbered worlds; the creatures are 152 original "Captures" drawn from across Mario's history, from Goombas and Koopa Troopas to Paper Mario's dragons; and the badges are eight Power Stars held by Peach, Daisy, Wario, Waluigi, Donkey Kong, Pauline, Rosalina and, at the end of his castle, Bowser. Luigi is the rival, Captain Toad joins you for a stretch of World 5, and after World 2 you choose whether to visit World 3 or World 4 first, with the trainers scaling to match. The engine carries the expansion's modern battle mechanics and a long list of optional settings — level caps, level scaling, EV toggles, infinite Rare Candies and a Nuzlocke mode — and a full postgame of rematches, developer fights and the Pit.

Captures, not Pokémon

Every creature in the game is an original "Capture" themed on the Mario series, and the Tattledex is the game's Pokédex. This guide uses the species names the creator's sheets use; the in-game summary screen shortens some of them.

Eight Power Stars

Princess Peach is running a contest: the first to collect all eight Power Stars is granted a wish. Each world's holder takes the place of a gym leader — Peach, Daisy, Wario, Waluigi, Donkey Kong, Pauline, Rosalina and Bowser — and Bowser keeps turning up along the way to try to beat you to them.

World 3 or World 4 first

After Daisy's Power Star the game lets you take Diamond City (World 3) or the Casino (World 4) first, and the trainers in both worlds scale to your choice. The trainer sheet records both sets of teams; the guide shows the World-3-first set by default and tags the other.

Captain Toad in World 5

Most of World 5 is played as Captain Toad or with him as a partner, so its fights are listed as wild battles. Shinies caught as Captain Toad are handed to Mario at the end of the world.

Difficulty is a set of switches

Level caps, level scaling, disabling EVs, infinite Rare Candies and a Nuzlocke mode are options in the game itself. The documentation does not publish the level-cap values, so the levels shown here are the trainers' own.

Shiny odds

Base odds are 1/4096. A Lure adds a roll, double battles with Captain Toad add one, the Shiny Charm (for catching 150 Captures) adds three, and Shiny Galaxy and the Pit add three; the sheet's best case is 1/512 in Shiny Galaxy. Traded Captures are shiny-locked.

From the documentation the creator links on the game's Hackdex page.

The main changes

  • A completely new region, the Mushroom Kingdom, built as eight worlds plus a postgame
  • 152 original Captures with their own stats, types, abilities and learnsets — no official Pokémon in the wild
  • Eight Power Stars instead of badges, held by Mario characters; Luigi as the rival and Mr. L as Champion
  • Worlds 3 and 4 in either order, with two sets of trainer teams to match
  • Optional level caps, level scaling, EV toggles, infinite Rare Candies and a built-in Nuzlocke mode
  • 268 trainer fights, 100 TMs with locations, 59 tutor moves and 64 hidden items from the creator's sheets

How the Pokémon change

Measured from the guide's own data, so it can't drift from the pages it links to.

Compared against present-day official data. The Fairy type and hidden abilities arrived after Pokémon Emerald, so a difference here can belong to the series rather than to this hack.
