About Pokémon Lazarus

Lazarus drops the whole of Hoenn and builds the Ilios region in its place: a new map, a new story, a new cast of gym leaders, and a Pokédex of 539 species drawn from all nine generations along with regional forms, Mega Evolution and a set of Megas the hack invents for itself. It runs on the modern pokeemerald expansion, so it has the physical/special split, abilities and moves up to generation 9, and hard level caps tied to each gym. Nemo622 publishes the whole game as one spreadsheet, and this guide is built from it: every wild table with its rates, every Pokémon's stats, abilities, level-up moves, egg moves, tutors and TM list, where all 68 TMs and HMs are found, and every trainer and boss roster on both Normal and Hard.

What's changed

  • An original region, Ilios, with its own story, cast and eight gyms
  • 539 Pokémon from all nine generations, plus regional forms
  • Mega Evolution, including Megas invented for this hack
  • A level cap at every gym — a soft cap on Normal, a hard one on Hard
  • Normal and Hard mode give every boss a different team, not just higher levels
  • Trainers draw their team from a pool, so a rematch is not the same fight
  • 80 side quests, most of them handing over a Pokémon, a TM or an item
  • Day and night wild encounter tables

What this guide covers

Every guide here is built from the hack's own documentation. Where a hack changed something but never published the numbers, this says so rather than quietly filling the gap with the original game's — which would be worse than leaving it out.

SectionSource
Wild Pokémon by areaFrom the hackEvery area's wild, surfing, fishing, diving and event tables, from the author's own workbook.
Encounter ratesFrom the hackThe hack's own percentages, split by day and night where the tables differ.
Wild levelsFrom the hackLevel ranges as the workbook gives them.
Stats, abilities and movesetsFrom the hackStats, types, abilities, level-up moves, egg moves, tutors, held items, egg groups and catch rates, all from the workbook.
TM and HM compatibilityFrom the hackThe hack sets its own TM list and compatibility; both come from the workbook rather than from Emerald.
Where TMs are foundFrom the hackWhere each TM and HM is found, with the point in the story you can reach it.
Trainer and boss teamsFrom the hackEvery boss and route trainer the workbook lists, on both Normal and Hard. Teams are pools — see the note on reading them. Boss fights carry abilities, held items and full movesets; route trainers are published as species and levels only, so those rows show no moves. Nine post-game trainers on Wakewater Isle are listed with their Pokémon left blank, so they are not shown at all. Ask in the Lazarus Discord

Reading the tables

TeamsLazarus trainers draw their team from a pool rather than fielding a fixed line-up. Every Pokémon in the pool is listed here, and the note on each one says how many of them the trainer actually sends out and which slot it competes for. Boss pools are colour-coded in the author's data: Red leads, Yellow fills the middle, Blue is the ace. Boss fights list abilities, held items and moves; ordinary route trainers are published as species and levels only, so those teams show nothing else.

ModesNormal and Hard share the same level caps — Normal treats the cap as a soft limit, Hard as a hard one — but the boss and trainer teams are built separately, so switching the toggle changes the rosters, the levels, the held items and the movesets.

RatesPercentages are the hack's own encounter rates. A trailing asterisk marks anything at 5% or less. Where a Pokémon is a gift, a quest reward or a static encounter the rate column says what you have to do instead.

StagesThe stage picker is the game's own level-cap splits, one for one. Each split is the stretch of the game that ends with the boss it is named after, so picking a stage means "I have beaten the previous one".

TmsRegional forms and Mega forms share their base species' national dex number, and TM compatibility is stored against that number, so a form's page shows its base species' TM list.

MovesThe workbook publishes where every TM and tutor lives but no move stats, so power, accuracy and PP here are the current official numbers — which is what a modern Emerald expansion hack uses. The two moves Lazarus invents show no numbers at all rather than borrowed ones.
