About Pokémon Gaia

Pokémon Gaia builds the Orbtus region from scratch on FireRed: a region of ruined temples and rising earthquakes, with its own story, its own cast and 100 mapped areas of wild Pokémon drawn from Kanto through Kalos. Under the hood it is one of the most heavily rebuilt FireRed hacks there is — the physical/special split, the Fairy type and the modern type chart, moves and abilities accurate to Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, an in-battle Mega Evolution system with 30 Mega Stones to find, Rock Climb, Dive and underwater maps, Hidden Grottoes and Secret Temples. The author publishes four spreadsheets covering the whole region, and this guide is built from them: every area's wild tables with his own encounter rates, every item and where it is, all 58 TMs and HMs, the evolutions Gaia changed, and the shard tutors. Content ends after the Champion — there is no post-game.

What's changed

  • An original region, Orbtus, with eight gyms, an Elite Four and no post-game
  • The physical / special / status split on FireRed's engine
  • Pokémon from Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova and Kalos
  • The Fairy type and the modern type chart
  • Moves, abilities and move sets accurate to Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire
  • In-battle Mega Evolution, with 30 Mega Stones hidden around the region
  • Rock Climb and climbable walls, plus Dive and fully mapped underwater areas
  • Hidden Grottoes and Secret Temples holding rare Pokémon and items
  • The Bug-Catching Contest and the Battle Marsh, a Battle Maison-style facility
  • Reusable TMs, indoor Running Shoes and experience for catching Pokémon

What this guide covers

Every guide here is built from the hack's own documentation. Where a hack changed something but never published the numbers, this says so rather than quietly filling the gap with the original game's — which would be worse than leaving it out.

SectionSource
Wild Pokémon by areaFrom the hackEvery one of the author's 100 mapped areas, including the Hidden Grottoes, Secret Temples, underwater maps, static encounters, gifts, trades and the Edashore Nursery eggs. The author's location sheet
Encounter ratesFrom the hackThe hack's own percentages, per species, straight off the author's sheet. Fishing rows name the rod.
Wild levelsNot published by the hackThe author's location sheet gives species and rates but no levels, and no other source has them. They are left blank rather than filled in from FireRed. Ask in the Gaia Discord
Stats, abilities and movesetsUnchanged from the base gameGaia's own species changes were never published, so stats, types and abilities here are the official games' — FireRed's where it had the Pokémon. The evolution methods the author did change are shown on each species that has one, along with the lines he flags as unobtainable. The author's evolution sheet
TM and HM compatibilityUnchanged from the base gameCompatibility is FireRed's, and only for the TM numbers on which Gaia kept FireRed's move. The replacement moves have no published compatibility, so they show none.
Where TMs are foundFrom the hackWhere each of the 58 TMs and HMs is found, from the author's item sheet, with the field moves it takes to reach it. 6 TMs are marked in that sheet as not obtainable in this release. The author's item sheet
Trainer and boss teamsFrom the hackFrom the Pokémon Gaia Hack Wiki (Fandom), CC BY-SA — the only public source, since the author publishes no rosters. 296 fights, and coverage is uneven: gym leaders, the Elite Four, the Champion and the rival are complete, and the early-game routes carry full movesets, but most trainers after the second badge are listed as species and levels only. SourcesEverything on the wild, item, TM, evolution and tutor pages comes from Spherical Ice's own spreadsheets, linked in the credits. Trainer teams come from the Pokémon Gaia Hack Wiki on Fandom, whose text is licensed CC BY-SA; it is the only public source for them, because the author has never published rosters.

LevelsThe author's location sheet gives the species in every area and the exact rate for each one, but no levels — they are not published anywhere. Rather than borrowing FireRed's, which would be wrong for a region FireRed doesn't have, wild levels are left blank here.

PokemonGaia never published its own stats, types, abilities or level-up sets, so what is shown is the official data — FireRed's for the Pokémon it had, current data for the Sinnoh, Unova and Kalos species it never saw — with the evolution changes the author did document laid on top. The author's feature list says Gaia's move sets are "accurate to OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire", so treat the level-up sets you meet in game as the Gen 6 ones.

RatesPercentages are the author's own encounter rates. A trailing asterisk marks anything at 5%% or less. Fishing rows say which rod they need; Game Corner rows show the coin price instead of a rate.

TmsTM and HM locations are the author's own. Compatibility is not published anywhere, so what is shown is FireRed's: a Pokémon is listed for a TM only where Gaia kept FireRed's move on that number. Gaia replaced about a third of the list with moves FireRed never had — Magic Shine, Charming Cry, Energy Ball, Roost, Scald and the rest — and those show no compatibility rather than a guess. TMs are reusable in this hack.

MovesGaia's move data is, in the author's words, accurate to Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, so that is where the power, accuracy and PP here come from. The moves Gaia invents — Magic Shine and Charming Cry — show no numbers at all rather than another move's.

Tutors4 shard tutors, one per shard colour: Blue in Valoon Town, Green in Southsea Stretch (Underwater), Red in Ikos Town, Yellow in Aerous Road. Each teaches 10 moves, priced from 2 to 10 shards, and shards come out of Rock Smash rocks. The full lists are on the author's tutor sheet, linked in the credits.

Unobtainable64 Pokémon lines — most of the legendaries, plus a handful of ordinary families — are flagged by the author as not obtainable in this release, and their evolutions with them. Each one says so on its own page.

StagesThe stage picker is the eight badges and the league. Gaia publishes no per-area progression, so an area is only gated here where a field move is genuinely required for the encounter method — Surf for water, Dive for the underwater tables — rather than guessed at from the story.

TrainersWiki coverage is uneven: gym leaders and the early routes carry full teams with levels, genders, abilities and moves, while most mid and late-game trainers are listed as species and levels only. Nothing has been filled in — a team with no moves shown is one the wiki does not give moves for.
