About Elite Redux

Elite Redux is Hoenn rebuilt around one idea: a Pokémon isn't one ability, it's four. Each species chooses one of three abilities and then permanently carries up to three innates on top, all active at once — so Bulbasaur is Overgrow and Thick Fat and Poison Absorb before it has picked anything. There are 1033 abilities in the game and almost none of them are the ones you know. Levels don't work the way you expect either: wild Pokémon and trainers both scale to your party, with a hard cap at every badge, so the game stays at your throat from Route 101 to the Champion. This guide is built from the game's own dex data: all 1906 species with their stats, types, level-up moves, chosen abilities and innates, 1031 moves, every one of 197 areas with the real encounter rates, and all 1715 trainer teams across the Ace, Elite and Hell difficulties.

What's changed

  • Every Pokémon picks one of three abilities and keeps up to three innates on top of it
  • 1033 abilities, nearly all of them written for this hack
  • Three difficulties — Ace, Elite and Hell — that give bosses completely different teams
  • Wild and trainer levels scale to your party, with a hard level cap at every badge
  • 1906 Pokémon, including regional forms, new Megas and species the hack invented
  • Gym leaders, the Elite Four and the Champion can all be rematched with new teams
  • Every trainer team is hand-built with EVs, natures, items and four real moves

What this guide covers

Every guide here is built from the hack's own documentation. Where a hack changed something but never published the numbers, this says so rather than quietly filling the gap with the original game's — which would be worse than leaving it out.

SectionSource
Wild Pokémon by areaFrom the hackEvery area's grass, surfing, fishing, Rock Smash, honey and hidden tables, plus the game's scripted and gift Pokémon, from the official dex's data for this build.
Encounter ratesFrom the hackExact. The hack uses one global slot table per method and each area carries its own density; repeated slots are added together.
Wild levelsDoesn't apply hereElite Redux picks a wild Pokémon's level from your own party (ChooseWildMonLevel), so the level pairs sitting in the data never reach the player. Showing them would be showing a number the game ignores. Elite Redux documentation
Stats, abilities and movesetsFrom the hackBase stats, types, the three abilities each species chooses between, the innates that are always active, level-up moves, tutors, egg groups and evolutions — all from the hack's own data.
TM and HM compatibilityNot published by the hackThe dex names all 100 TMs and 8 HMs and the move each teaches, but publishes no per-species compatibility, so no Pokémon here shows a TM list. Emerald's own compatibility would be wrong for this hack, so it isn't used. Check in the Elite Redux dex
Where TMs are foundNot published by the hackWhere each TM and HM is found isn't in the published data. Elite Redux documentation
Trainer and boss teamsFrom the hackAll 895 trainers with their Ace, Elite and Hell rosters, held items, natures, chosen ability, innates and full movesets. Levels are the hack's badge-gated level cap for that point in the story on the strict Elite setting — trainer Pokémon store no level of their own, because the game scales them to your party. Reading the tables

AbilitiesEvery Pokémon in Elite Redux has two kinds of ability. The "Abilities" list on a species page is the up-to-three it chooses one of. Its **innates** are separate: up to three more that are all active at the same time, permanently, on top of whichever ability it picked. They're listed on each species page and on every trainer's Pokémon here, because a team read without them looks far easier than it is. Almost all 1034 abilities are this hack's own, so the descriptions come from the game rather than from official Pokémon data.

LevelsElite Redux scales levels to you. Wild Pokémon take their level from your own party in ChooseWildMonLevel(), and trainer Pokémon have no stored level at all — the game works one out when you walk in. So no wild level is shown anywhere in this guide, and the level printed on a trainer's Pokémon is the game's own level cap for that point in the story, not a fixed number that Pokémon will be.

CapsThe level caps are the hack's own, from GetLevelCap(), and there is one set per level-cap setting. The levels shown here are the strict Elite set: 16, 23, 36, 45, 50, 55, 60, 70, 80, 100 by badge count. On More it is 18, 25, 40, 50, 55, 70, 85, 92, 95, 100; on Easy 20, 28, 44, 55, 65, 80, 90, 100, 100, 100. Add the difference to every level on a fight if you're playing one of the looser settings.

ModesAce is the default team every trainer fields. Elite and Hell are separate rosters the hack builds for the harder settings — not the same team at higher levels, but different Pokémon with different items and moves. A trainer with nothing written for a difficulty fights their Ace team on it, and where two difficulties field the same team this guide shows it once.

RatesEncounter percentages are exact. Elite Redux uses one slot table per method for the whole game — 20/20/10/10/10/10/5/5/4/4/1/1 in grass, 60/30/5/5 surfing — and each area says how densely it rolls on it. Where an area puts the same Pokémon in several slots the percentages are added up. A trailing asterisk marks anything at 5% or less.

StagesElite Redux keeps Hoenn's map and Emerald's badge order, so the stage picker is Emerald's own progression, and which HM or fishing rod opens which method follows the base game. What isn't borrowed is the level cap on each stage — those are the hack's own numbers. A handful of areas Elite Redux adds for itself, like Ashen Woods and the Secret Dungeon, are marked as new rather than locked to a badge, because the data doesn't say when they open.

RematchesGym leaders, the Elite Four and most route trainers have numbered rematch teams. The dex resolves a map for the first fight but not for the rematch pool, so those are grouped under "Location not published" and shown at the post-game level cap rather than being given a venue they might not have.

TmsThe dex publishes the TM and HM list — all 108 of them, with the move each one teaches — but not which species can learn them, so there is no per-Pokémon TM table here and no TM locations. Nothing is filled in from Emerald's own TM data, which would be wrong in a hack that rewrote the move list.

NewmonsElite Redux adds 105 brand-new Pokémon of its own, numbered past the national dex (Abyssand, Crabruiser, Dududunsparce and the rest). They have full stats, abilities and movesets here, but no official artwork exists for them, so they appear without a picture.
