About Blaze Black & Volt White
The 2011 hack of the original Pokémon Black and White — not the Black 2 and White 2 sequel, which has its own guide here. Blaze Black and Volt White rewrite every wild encounter table in Unova so all 649 Pokémon are catchable in one playthrough, scatter the legendaries of all five generations through the region as one-percent wild encounters, and rebuild every trainer in the game with real movesets, held items and abilities. Bianca, Cheren, N, the gym leaders and the Elite Four all field full teams, and the leaders come back for a post-game rematch out on the routes. It ships in two builds: the regular one, which also changes base stats, types and abilities, and a Clean build that keeps the official numbers and only touches encounters, trainers and items.
What's changed
- All 649 Pokémon catchable in the wild or by evolution, before the Elite Four
- Every route, cave and water table rewritten, seasons included
- Every legendary in the game as a 1% wild encounter, with a hint for each one
- Gym leaders, rivals, N and the Elite Four rebuilt with items, abilities and movesets
- Gym leaders return for a post-game rematch, replacing a trainer out on the routes
- Trade evolutions changed to item evolutions, with six of each stone handed out
- Item balls reshuffled so the good TMs and hold items arrive far earlier
- Cut and Strength reworked into moves worth a slot; a pile of weak moves buffed
What this guide covers
Every guide here is built from the hack's own documentation. Where a hack changed something but never published the numbers, this says so rather than quietly filling the gap with the original game's — which would be worse than leaving it out.
| Section | Source | |
|---|---|---|
| Wild Pokémon by area | From the hack | |
| Encounter rates | From the hack | |
| Wild levels | Not published by the hack | The wild list gives each area's species and their rates, but never their levels. They aren't shown rather than borrowed from vanilla Black and White, which this hack rewrites. |
| Stats, abilities and movesets | From the hack | |
| TM and HM compatibility | From the hack | |
| Where TMs are found | From the hack | |
| Trainer and boss teams | From the hack | Every trainer the two roster documents list, up to Victory Road. The Pokémon League, Black City / White Forest and the post-game routes were never written up for this release. |

Reading the tables
LevelsDrayano's wild list gives encounter rates but not levels: the levels for each table are the ones Black and White already used for that area, so they are left blank here rather than guessed.
RatesPercentages are the hack's own encounter rates; * marks anything at 5% or less. Where a legendary shares a table its 1% is taken off the last entry, so a listed 10% may really be 9%.
Rare'Rustling grass' and 'dust cloud' are the rare patches that appear at random. None of them show up until you have beaten the Striaton gym.
SeasonsBlack and White change some tables with the season; where they do, the season is part of the area name (Route 6 - Winter).
VersionsBlaze Black gets Zekrom, Thundurus, pink Shellos and Gastrodon and red Basculin in the wild; Volt White gets Reshiram, Tornadus, blue Shellos and Gastrodon and blue Basculin. Each version's other dragon is caught at N's Castle as usual.
CleanThe Clean build drops the stat, type and ability changes. Where a boss differs between builds, the Clean ability, item or move is on the asterisk next to that Pokémon's ability.
RivalBianca takes the starter yours is strong against, so the starter picker filters her fights. Cheren takes the one that beats yours, so all three of his teams are listed and labelled instead.
RodsBlack and White only have the Super Rod, and this hack moves it to Route 3 — you can fish from the second town onwards.
GapsThe routes document stops at Victory Road: the Pokémon League trainers, Black City and White Forest, and the post-game routes have no ordinary-trainer list in the source documents.
